Dixon (Medina) is born in Boston.

November 2, 1962

One of 11 children, Medina Dixon grows up in Mattapan, develops as a basketball player at the Shelburne Center, and leads Cambridge Rindge & Latin High School to the Massachusetts high school girls championship in 1981, and Old Dominion University to the NCAA championship in 1985. Thought by many to be the best woman’s basketball player to come from Boston, she goes on to play on the U.S. Olympic team in 1992 Olympics, and play professionally in Italy, Japan, and Russia. Dixon dies on November 8, 2021. The basketball courts at Walker Playground are named for her on February 24, 2022.
